Digging deep for drinking water? You may have to shell out Rs 10,000 as fine

To stop illegal extraction of groundwater, a panel of the Central Pollution Control Board has suggested environmental compensation (EC) ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,00,000, especially in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
