139 protesters detained for violating Section 144

Over 130 protesters, mostly students, were detained by police on Monday morning from outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan and Assam Bhawan in central Delhi. Officers said the demonstrators were violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC imposed on the area. While some of the detainees claimed to have been wrongfully taken into custody because they were not protest participants, a few women students alleged assault at the hand of women cops.
