4-year jail to woman for dumping baby

In a rare judgment, a 35-year-old woman has been given a four-year jail term for abandoning her newborn on a heap of garbage. The child later died. The punishment was based on the offence of “culpable homicide not amounting to murder” as she knew that the infant, who was barely 16 hours old, wouldn’t survive if abandoned.
