SC permits bullock cart races to restart in Maha

Maharashtra will witness the resumption of its rural bull-racing sport — popularly known as ‘bailgada sharyat’, ‘chakkadi’ and ‘shankar path’ — as the Supreme Court on Wednesday said these traditional events should be permitted as the state, like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, has passed laws exempting these from the ambit of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
