
A severe heatwave gripped the city and its neighbouring areas on Friday. The Safdarjung weather station, the base station for Delhi, logged a high of 41.6 degrees Celsius, seven notches above normal and the earliest when the mercury rose to such a point in the past 72 years. Some parts of the capital were even hotter at above 43 degrees. India Meteorological Department sees no respite from the heat for the next three days.
