Don't equate fin crimes to murder to deny bail: SC
The Supreme Court of India has stated that economic offences should not be treated the same as serious crimes like murder or rape when it comes to denying bail. The court held that an accused person can be granted bail due to delays in trial or long periods of incarceration. The court emphasized that detention without trial should not be considered punishment, and bail should be considered for economic offences if the trial is expected to take a significant amount of time. The court also referred to the right to a speedy trial as a fundamental right of the accused.
