Plastic waste: MCD to table draft bylaws

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has drafted Plastic Waste Management Bylaws, 2023, which will be presented for approval. The bylaws will apply to all waste generators, manufacturers, dealers, importers, exporters, producers, and premises in MCD areas. The draft emphasizes reducing plastic waste generation, segregation at source, and disposal of banned plastic. It also highlights the need for more collection, storage, and recycling centers. Fines will be imposed for non-compliance, and there is a focus on encouraging one-day collection drives and using plastic for road construction or energy recovery. Plastic producers must establish waste collection systems within six months.
