JNU to punish protests within 100m of any academic building with Rs 20k fine or expulsion
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has banned the display of posters and staging of protests within 100 meters of any academic building. Violation of this rule can result in a fine of up to Rs 20,000 or expulsion. The manual of the Chief Proctor Office, which contains rules of discipline and conduct, was approved by JNU's Executive Council. The manual has faced criticism for restricting campus activism and compromising student autonomy. The new rules come after an incident of an "antinational" slogan being written on a wall at JNU.
