Beyond the red-light tag: Kamathipura’s 45 Ganesh mandals invite Mumbaikars to see celebrations

Mumbai’s Kamathipura has 45 Ganesh mandals, many decades old, spread across 16 lanes, as a new generation of residents works to shed the area’s old red-light district image. Despite limited funds and lower footfall, the mandals continue the Ganeshotsav tradition, with educated young organisers using social media and community initiatives to showcase the neighbourhood’s celebrations.
