BMC to crack whip on shops if names not in Marathi from next wk
Starting November 28, BMC will take action against shops in Mumbai not displaying their nameplates in Marathi Devanagari script. The civic body formed teams in each ward to enforce the directive. The state cabinet approved the amendment to the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act, requiring even shops with fewer than 10 workers to have Marathi nameplates. Non-compliant shops face legal repercussions, including a fine of Rs 2,000 per person. Concerns arise regarding the visibility of Marathi nameplates on display boards.
