Mumbai businessman falls victim to AI voice cloning, loses Rs 80,000

A 68-year-old Powai businessman was swindled out of Rs80,000 in an AI voice cloning scam. The fraudster, posing as the Indian Embassy in Dubai, falsely claimed that the businessman's 43-year-old son was detained on Mar 30. The Kanjurmarg police, acting on the businessman's complaint, revealed that the scammer even mimicked the son's voice on the phone, requesting bail.
